Our Roots

Methodism has a solid foundation in the Muncie area, dating back to 1836. The congregation was founded in 1900 and has been built on this foundation of countless faithful Christians serving this community.

In 1929, the College Avenue congregation moved into the old Whittier School building. In the 1950s and ‘60s, the church experienced tremendous growth. In 1956, the present sanctuary was completed, followed by the education building in 1967. In the 1970s, ‘80s, and ‘90s, we continued to serve the community, especially college students. In the 2000s, we experienced lots of changes. Today, we’re emerging from a three-year strategic planning effort that has primed us for growth and outreach.

Our connections

We partner with seven other United Methodist churches to reach our community. We are also part of the East District of the Indiana Conference, meaning we’re linked with 1,200 other United Methodist Churches in our state. We’re dedicated to supporting the broader church with our gifts and our service.

We’re connected to the United Methodist Church with more than 12 million members around the world. We hold to historic doctrines of the Christian faith. Methodists have always been known for our emphasis on personal faith lived out with concrete actions in our world. We have open hearts, open doors, and open minds for anyone wanting to learn more about following Jesus.

We hope you discover a dynamic, welcoming place at College Avenue where you truly experience the love of Christ and our enthusiasm for sharing that love with our community.
