The apostle Peter was Jewish, and he believed that following Jesus meant also obeying Jewish laws. God appears to him in a vision, telling him to eat food he had believed was unclean. And then Peter witnesses the conversion of Cornelius, a Gentile he had believed was unclean and outside the faith. These two experiences inspire him to proclaim that God shows no partiality and welcomes all to the way of Jesus. How do we foster the urgency, community, and vision of Peter in the United Methodist Church today?
