Abundant Life – Youth Ministry
I know the abundant life of Jesus in my life today because I was blessed to grow up in a church that invested in youth ministry. My church didn’t see youth as the future of the church, but as the Body of Christ right here and now.
We were leaders and participants in worship.
We planned activities for United Methodist Youth Fellowship.
We went on annual mission trips across the country, and engaged weekly as tutors at an urban community center and as camp counselors in the summer months.
We were part of choirs and bell choirs that also went on tours.
We were assistants at Vacation Bible School, Live Nativity, and with younger children’s Sunday School classes and small groups.
We were fortunate to have an amazing core of adult volunteers who offered their time to be with us, and we also had staff members who worked alongside them to coordinate these vital ministries. Most of the youth who emerged from this ministry have stayed connected to churches, and many have gone onto caring professions where they live out their faith on a daily basis.
For the past few years, we have tried to coordinate youth ministry at College Avenue relying solely on volunteers. We are so grateful for those who have given of their time and talent. We recognize that we need to create a staff position if we’re going to continue to expand, especially with our growing group of middle school students and the Indiana Academy.
As you examine the abundance in your life, please prayerfully consider increasing your gift to College Avenue in 2017 to make this new position possible so that more young people in Muncie may come to know the abundant life of Jesus Christ.
Abundant Life – Mission Garden
We need gardeners to participate in the College Avenue Mission Garden planned for 2017. The proposed vegetable garden will generate fresh produce to be distributed to our mission partners throughout the growing season and will be organized in sections according to the type of crop. Opportunities will be available for all skill and physical ability levels but initially we need volunteers to be team leaders. There will be a sign-up sheet in the Coffee Bar area. For questions and more information contact Jim Kouns at 765-254-1879 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Abundant Life Pacesetters
As we embark on our Abundant Life stewardship effort, Pastor Lisa will be meeting with people who feel called to be “Pacesetters” for the church, meaning they’re setting the tone for extravagant generosity by their proportionately high level of giving. If you feel called to be a Pacesetter, please join us on Tuesday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. in Wesley Hall, as we enjoy homemade pies, engage in conversation, and prayerfully consider how we can support our goals for 2017.
